Landscape (BTEC National Certificate/Award) Botanical (BTEC First Diploma)
On the trip to Cornwall, the students attending will be working on art work and creative ideas for three whole days. During the days the group is away in Cornwall, you will also have to take the opportunity to develop your own work and ideas through personal study.
Use one of the following below as a starting point, some are more suited to your individual courses (** BTEC National Cert/Award, ∆ BTEC First Diploma). You WILL be expected to complete the tasks stated below, you will not however be expected to work in college.
1. Texture **

Look, document and explore textures within the landscape. Think of different ways to experiment with a variety of surfaces and a vast range of traditional and non-traditional media. Create a series of exciting sketches/art works.
2. Using Nature ∆
Georgia OKeefe and Andy Goldsworthy are both interested in using and basing their art work around nature and natural forms. Study both as a starting point and create work in the style of this studied art work.
3. Mark-Making **

Document your own journeys throughout Thursday to Saturday, take short walks around where you live, collect images, document what you see, feel, experience. Collate these images together to create a series of visual narratives.
4. Blossfeldt ∆

Karl Blossfeldt was a photographer who in the early 20th century created intricate black and white photography which was interested in enlarging macro images of flora and fauna. Make similar studies using a variety of medias, you could use a camera as your starting point.
5. JMW Turner **

JMW Turner was fascinated with light, expressive marks and movement. As well as spending time touring the British Isles he also came to the North Kent coast and made a series of works in Margate. Looking at his style of art work, make a response to light and movement in the landscape.
6. Still Life ∆

Create a series of studies of still like set ups which look in particular at flowers and plants. Develop these using different media.
7. Working from Observation **

Take a trip to somewhere, where you can experience/ be-in the landscape. Spend a time drawing from the landscape, concentrate on the views you see, colours, feelings etc.
You may want to support your work/ideas by taking additional photos.
In all potential starting points think whether you can continue to develop your work during Term 4.
I am aware that you will be missing out on three intensive days of tutor led art work. Therefore completing these tasks are not just beneficial but essential for passing each course.
This (above) work will hopefully be the basis for you to start the new project upon returning to college on Monday 3.03.08.
Deadline for completing the above task/s: 3.03.08
