BTEC National Certificate Year 1
Abstraction: Influences

We have already discussed that many Abstract artists were and are influenced by many things from emotions to sounds, landscapes to the human form, movement to something spiritual, from colour to shape. This defines the art work from artist to art movement.

It is now your turn to decide what you are going to base your art work upon, whether this is some representational or something emotive and untangible.

Develop ideas around a few starting points and experiment with various media, materials, surfaces and stimlus.
During the next two weeks you will be asked to develop design ideas for a series of paintings or a final painting. This will need to be developed refined and produced for a final group crit on the last day of term.

Annotate all your own ideas and experiments as you go along, think about why you are creating them, how they represent your original stimlus and how this will develop and evoke into a final piece/painting. Compare your work and ideas to the artists you have been looking at and being inspired by.
