Abstraction- History of Abstract Art

A great deal of abstract artists stimulus is based on different and sometimes intangible things. Abstract art tends to be non-representational, this could be due to the fact that their influences are non-representational and even emotive.

Think about the variety of Abstract artists you have studied, and think about in particular their inspriation and concepts behind their art work and paintings.

Influences of Abstract art:
SPACE, TIME, COLOUR, SHAPES, EMOTIONS/FEELINGS, MUSIC/SOUND, ARCHITECTURE, LANDSCAPE, MAPS, THE FIGURE/HUMAN FORM, ACTION/MOVEMENT, EACH OTHER, WAR, SPIRITUALISM etc.

Task: to create an investigative piece of work which looks at the different influences of Abstract Art. Study a variety of artists work and think about personal reasons for these starting points and influences.

Develop ideas which will be your own starting points/for planning and developing a series of Abstract ideas and paintings.
